Terrain models are three-dimensional timber maps machined from real-world elevation data.
Choose a place that matters — an island, a harbour, a mountain range, a farm, a coastline or a whole region — and we develop the model, set the area and scale, and machine every contour into solid timber.
Each model is made to order and can be personalised with names, dates, coordinates or wording engraved into the timber.

- Natural oil, or clear finish selected to suit the timber.

- Typically 3–5 weeks, depending on size and workshop schedule.

- Nationwide courier, or collection from the Design Eye workshop.

We work from real elevation data, so the contours, ridgelines, valleys and coastlines are accurate to the place itself.
Islands, harbours, maunga, farms, ski fields, sailing grounds, hometowns and entire regions all work well.
Once we know the location we set the boundary and scale so the features you care about read clearly at the size you want.
Choose Your Timber.
The timber changes the whole character of the piece, from pale and graphic through to dark, dense and highly figured.
Options include Solid Poplar, Rimu, Rata, Pohutukawa, Swamp Kauri, Totara, Redwood, Macrocarpa and Oak.
Some native and salvaged timbers are one-offs from our own sawmill, so availability changes over time.
Made to Order, From NZD 100.
Smaller desk and gift pieces start from NZD 100. Larger models, multi-layer builds, framed panels and detailed engraving are priced individually.
Price depends on the size, the timber selected, the level of contour detail and any personalisation.
Every model is machined to order, so nothing is held in stock and each piece is made specifically for you.
Gifts, Awards and Site Models.
Terrain models are made as wedding, anniversary, retirement and farewell gifts, and as commemorative pieces for places with a story.
They also work as architectural site models, presentation pieces, trophies and corporate gifts produced as a matched set.
Wording, names, dates, coordinates or a logo can be engraved directly into the timber.
How It Is Made.
We prepare the elevation data, build the three-dimensional model and machine it from solid timber on our CNC.
The surface is then hand finished so the contours stay crisp and the grain shows through.
